Information for our patients

At Childers Medical Imaging we aim to make your examination as comfortable as possible. We have endeavoured to anticipate all the questions you may have, if we have not covered something you are concerned about please contact one of our friendly staff.

What do I need to bring to my appointment?

You must bring your request form and Medicare card. If you have any written results from previous examinations relating to your current procedure please bring those with you.

What if I need to cancel or rearrange my appointment?

If you need to reschedule an appointment please contact us as soon as possible to rearrange, preferably at least 24 hours prior to your appointment.

Who will be performing my procedure?

Depending on the procedure, it will be performed by a qualified Radiographer or Sonographer.

Should I be worried about radiation?

For decades radiation has been a useful diagnostic tool in medicine. Although excessive amounts of radiation can be harmful to your health we aim to keep the dose of any radiation procedure to the minimum level required to achieve diagnostic results. If you have further concerns please feel free to discuss this with the Radiographer on the day of your examination.

Why do I need a full bladder for some scans?

A full bladder assists in moving the uterus into the best position to image with ultrasound. It also allows assessment of the bladder itself and the prostate gland in males.

Why must I fast or not smoke for some scans?

Eating, drinking, smoking and chewing gum all increase the gas within the stomach and intestine which interferes with the ultrasound imaging.

Is parking available on-site?

Yes. A disabled car space is situated at the entrance to the building with additional car parks at the rear of the premises.

I'm claustrophobic, will a CT scan be a problem for me?

Our CT scanner offers a more open design which allows patients to see outside of the machine during the examination. If you are nervous about your procedure please contact us to discuss it further.

I have a request form for another Imaging centre. Can I use this form at CMI?

Yes. As long as your form has been completed by an appropriate medical practitioner we can accept it at CMI.

Will the procedure hurt?

Generally X-Rays, Ultrasounds and CT scans are painless and non-invasive procedures. Some CT scans, however, will require an injection of contrast.

When will I receive the results?

The report on your examination will be sent to the medical practitioner electronically within approximately 2 business days after your procedure.

Do I need to confirm my booking?

Yes. For certain examinations our staff will contact you to confirm your booking. If they are unable to contact you they will leave a message. Make sure you return our call to confirm your appointment. If your appointment is not confirmed it may be given away to another patient.

What if I might be pregnant and need an X-Ray?

If possible x-rays should be avoided during pregnancy due to the use of radiation.

In spite of this many patients undergo x-ray

examinations each year while pregnant with no complications due to the minimal radiation doses involved in radiology procedures.

If you have a request for diagnostic imaging and believe you are pregnant please contact us to discuss the procedure.

Can I have an X-ray or CT scan while I'm breastfeeding?

The radiation from an X-ray or CT scan has no impact on breast milk and will not affect your ability to breastfeed.

If you are undergoing a CT scan involving an injection of IV contrast please inform the Radiographer if you are breastfeeding.

Who can see my images?

Your GP can view your images online using Voyager WebViewer.   There is also a link to your images that is part of your report sent through Medical Objects.

You can purchase a USB containing your images for $10. We can load additional images onto your USB until it is full.
